Extreme Jesus Crew

X-treme Jesus Crew (XJC) has become a regular part of community life over the past 14 years, meeting throughout the school year each Monday night from 5:30-7:00 pm. This time includes an informal sharing/worship time where any child or adult present can share a song, a dance, a drawing or picture, or just some good news with the group. Afterwards, we break up into 5 different classes for kids ages 3-18 and have a family style meal and Bible study. During this school year, we have had 78 different children at our Monday night meetings with 55 of them being regulars. We have a team of 18 adult XJC volunteers who make XJC possible, 10 of whom live in the neighborhood. This allows us to build long term relationships with the kids throughout the week. We also have fun celebrations and events throughout the year and are blessed by Camp Tecumseh YMCA with full scholarships for around 12 children a year.

Where does the name X-treme Jesus Crew come from?
It comes from our theme verse found in Luke 5:11: So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (NIV) Some of the first Jesus Followers were a fishing Crew who had just witnessed Jesus giving them a miraculous overflowing catch of fish. This was like having the winning lottery ticket! But instead of cashing in on the big catch, the fisherman left the boats and the fish on the shore and took off to follow Jesus. We consider that to be X-treme!

What is the mission of X-treme Jesus Crew?
To raise up urban children to be x-treme followers of Jesus Christ, specifically:
- To introduce and nurture youth in a relationship with Jesus Christ
- To empower youth to envision the possibilities for their future including the importance education plays.
- To raise up indigenous leaders to strengthen and serve their community.
- To provide youth the foundation to make positive decisions faced with negative situations.
- To teach youth how to communicate, build relationships, and mentor other children.

How can I be involved?

Volunteer: If you are interested in being an XJC volunteer, please contact Mary Provence at mary@rebuildingthewall.org. We have an in-depth screening process involving a completed application, interview, reference and background check.

Donate: In order to fund XJC, we have always relied on donations of time, money, and resources from community residents, volunteers and supporters. We do not receive any grant funding for XJC. Needs vary by time of year but involve money to purchase Bibles & curriculum, food for our shared meals, craft supplies, money for field trips and special events. Please contact Mary Provence at mary@rebuildingthewall.org for a list of the most current needs.
