Thrive | Family Testimony | Family Partner Volunteer Opportunity

Description of Role: THRIVE Family Partners make a minimum of a one year commitment to develop a meaningful relationship with a Rebuilding the Wall family. Partners work in collaboration with families as they pursue their goal of first time homeownership.

Outline of General Volunteer Responsibilities: By investing in a personal relationship with a Rebuilding the Wall family, you commit to walking hand in hand together down their path of first time homeownership. You will work with your family on goal-setting, budgeting, career development, spiritual growth, and more. You may decide to spend time together working on the rehab of their new home, spending time in prayer and fellowship, and/or spending social time together among families. The opportunities for growth and meaningful exchange are limitless.

Characteristics of a Family Partner: The ideal partner is a person who, easily cultivates relationships with others, encourages others towards growth and positive life change, is open to being transformed by the experience, and is interested in building bridges of racial and socio-economic reconciliation.

Training and Support Plan:
Family Partners will participate in Rebuilding the Wall’s Family Partner Orientation, bi-monthly Family Partner Roundtable Discussions, Family Recognition Nights, and RTW social gatherings. The THRIVE Coordinator will also collect monthly tracking forms from partners. Additionally, the Coordinator will communicate with partners via monthly newsletter, e-mails and phone calls.

Time Commitment:
Partners will meet with their family at a minimum of once a month in person, spending 4-6 hours together per month. This time includes bi-weekly phone calls and/or e-mails to maintain communication. It is our hope that you will become a stable and dependable part of the family’s extended support network. Your relationship will be supported for a period of 1-2 years, depending on the families’ and partners’ interests and needs.

Living the gospel means desiring for your neighbor and your neighbor’s family that which you desire for yourself and your family. Living the gospel means bettering the quality of other people’s lives-spiritually, physically, socially, and emotionally-as you better your own. Living the gospel means sharing in the suffering and pain of others. –John M. Perkins, Restoring At-Risk Communities
